Calculate the full cost of a hotel stay
The first displayed price may cover only part of the stay. Two identical nightly rates can lead to different totals.
In brief
Calculate the full cost of a hotel stay
Add every night and room, compulsory charges, needed services and transport. Use the same currency and comparable cancellation terms.
1. Establish the room total
Check nights, guests and exact category. Distinguish nightly from whole-stay prices. Member or mobile discounts count only if you qualify and the final summary confirms them.
2. Identify mandatory charges
Read the final breakdown for local taxes, service charges and property fees. Ask what is paid now or on arrival and how occupants or nights affect the amount.
3. Budget for useful services
Price breakfast for all guests and check serving hours. Add only services you need: baby cot, pet, spa, luggage, laundry or late departure. Unknown amounts remain unconfirmed, not zero.
4. Include transport and parking
Count daily journeys for everyone and both airport transfers. For parking, check billing periods, access and re-entry. A lower room price may require expensive evening taxis.
5. Separate cost from risk
Compare flexible and non-refundable terms for the same stay. Record possible cancellation losses separately from certain spending. Check currency conversion, card fees, collection dates and any refundable deposit.

Should a refundable deposit be added to the stay cost?
Keep it separate from final spending, but allow for the temporary effect on your available funds. Confirm release conditions.
